“Accessible is simply defined as available to as many pet guardians as possible. Accessible Spay/Neuter programs remove existing barriers to the availability of sterilization. Such programs include those that offer subsidized Spay/Neuter surgery, those that are high volume, high-quality clinics, and those that are able to bring clinics to the animals or vice versa.”

When Can I Spay or Neuter My Pet?

We can spay or neuter kittens around the five month marker, and puppies around six months of age. Sometimes vets like to wait until extra-large breeds (ie. St.Bernards, Great Danes, etc) are eight to twelve months old. Sometimes, earlier spays or neuters are the better option to prevent litters. Please fill out an application and we can assist you!

In 2025, let’s imagine a community where every pet has a loving home, every animal is healthy, and our neighbourhoods are free from seeing the sad plight of stray, unwanted and abandoned animals. This vision can become a reality, and it starts with a simple, responsible choice: spaying and neutering our animals. Why? - Reducing Pet Overpopulation: Spaying and neutering prevents unwanted litters, helping reduce the number of homeless animals and ensuring more pets have a chance at a happy, healthy life. - Health Benefits: Spaying females before their first heat reduces the risk of uterine infections and breast tumors, which are malignant in about 50% of dogs and 90% of cats. Neutering males can prevent testicular cancer and prostate issues. - Better Behavior: Neutered males are less likely to roam in search of a mate, reducing the risk of them getting lost or injured. Additionally, spayed females won’t go into heat, which can lead to behavioral changes such as yowling and frequent urination. These procedures can also reduce aggression and decrease the likelihood of marking behaviors.- Cost-Effective in the Long Run: Avoiding the expenses related to caring for litters, as well as the potential medical costs associated with reproductive cancers, makes it a cost-effective choice.- Supporting Community Welfare: By spaying or neutering your pet, you’re helping your community reduce the number of stray animals. - Making Spay/Neuter Services Accessible to All: Many of our lower-income neighbours genuinely wish to have their pets spayed or neutered but struggle to afford the cost. By advocating for our low-cost program, we can assist these families and ensure that the joys of the human-animal bond are available toeveryone. What can you do?Advocate for financial support for any and all spay/neuter clinics and programs from your municipal government! Programs like SNIP decrease the burden on animal control services, ultimately saving taxpayer dollars.Thank you for your support 😃🤩SNIP Team ... See MoreSee Less
